Glasgow Cathedral is the only medieval Cathedral on the Scottish
mainland to have survived the Reformation unscathed in the orgy of
vandalism that destroyed or defaced so many other Scottish churches
in the period from 1560. The present building dating from the 12th
century, is a truly magnificent example of medieval architecture.
Although it is a working church for the congregation of the Church
of Scotland, it is owned by The
Crown and is maintained by Historic
Scotland as a National Monument.
